Employee Spotlight: Liana Butkunas

Senior Designer Liana Butkunas is an instrumental part of The Marketing Store’s creative team, helping launch a re-design of the T-Mobile Tuesdays app and the 5-year Thankiversary, an in-app celebration thanking T-Mobile customers for 5 years of participation. When she's not cooking up new illustrations, she's testing out new recipes. Learn more about Liana below.

What type of work experiences did you have prior to joining The Marketing Store?

I designed for various other Ad Agencies, as well as had a brief stint working as a Creative Strategy Designer for Pinterest! 

What’s in your headphones currently?

I’ve been on a weird throwback kick, so This Must Be the Place by Talking Heads is what I'm listening to. 

Describe The Marketing Store in one word.

During your time at The Marketing Store, what work are you most proud of?

I'm most proud of redesigning and creating the new illustration style for T-Mobile Tuesdays. Our team was tasked with creating a cohesive style for the Tuesdays app after there had previously been many different styles stitched together. We presented a completely different option, what we called “Mixed Media.” It features a mix of line iconography styling with more organic basic shapes. We have begun rolling out newly updated features centered around the new look.

What would the title of your autobiography be? 

Just Go With It

Which person (dead or alive) would you most like to be stuck in an elevator with and why? 

I’m going to go with alive because the question is just too hard. Alison Roman! She’s written for the New York times and is now a food personality. She’s been a huge inspiration to me both with her entrepreneurship and her cooking style. 

What's the best piece of career advice you’ve been given?

People always envision their career path as a ladder, but it’s better to view it as jungle gym. You’ll step to the side, sometimes you'll make a diagonal jump, and you’ll even have to go backwards, but ultimately, it'll get you to where you're meant to be.

What’s your current side hustle?

I love anything to do with food! Currently, I’m growing tomatoes and peppers on my patio, and I’m also experimenting with different pickling recipes.
