tms achieves the Planet Mark sustainability certification across all global offices

Planet Mark slogan over the ocean

Today, tms (formerly The Marketing Store) is proud to announce that we have once again achieved certification to The Planet Mark, an internationally recognised sustainability certification awarded to businesses, properties, new developments and projects that are committed to reducing their carbon emissions.

To achieve the global certification, we calculated the carbon footprint of our Chicago, Hong Kong, Leeds, London, Duisburg and Paris offices for the year ending December 2020 and have pledged to maintain a 5% reduction in emissions annually.

This is the first time that tms (formerly The Marketing Store) has been recognized globally and the second year of business carbon footprint reporting for our European offices, who were also recognized in 2020.

From 2019 to 2020, the Europe offices were able to reduce their total carbon emissions by 69.2%, placing them in the highest reduction band among other Planet Mark holders.

Naturally, this significant reduction was bolstered by Coronavirus restrictions forcing the closure of our offices throughout much of 2020. However, during this time we continued to encourage our employees to make positive adjustments to influence their environmental impact whilst working from home. As we look to maintain a 5% reduction in 2021, we will continue to research and innovate efficient hybrid and virtual working models for our teams.

We also measured our Social Value contributions for the year, in recognition of the contribution our business makes to society. We reported on 9 Social Value measures and scored highly for investing in diversity, equity and inclusion measures and providing meaningful work placements (paid internships) and apprenticeships.

Pamela Stathaki, Head of Sustainability at tms (formerly The Marketing Store), commented:

“This is an exciting year for us because not only does our Planet Mark certification have global scope, but we have also taken our parent company HAVI on the journey with us too.

The pandemic may have created some setbacks, but we have not allowed it to put a pause on our sustainability ambitions. We are excited about HAVI’s new sustainability strategy ‘Better Future Blueprint’ and looking forward to helping our people and our clients drive significant and vital change.”

Steve Malkin, Founder and CEO of The Planet Mark, said:

“As cutting-edge communicators, tms (formerly The Marketing Store) are a great example of an agency using their voice to influence the masses on the fight against climate change.

Their commitment in making a positive environmental and societal impact can be seen throughout their processes, underpinning everything they do. The carbon reductions achieved this year are evidence that with enough ambition and collaboration, we can advance practices and solutions that accelerate climate action.”
